What’s changed here in the inventory window? We began with mockups of the various GUI elements in the game, separating things out a bit and allowing for more features (since it’s easier to add new GUI features with Daikon Forge). So, since we have to redo the GUI from the ground-up, why not rethink it and make it better? It supports resizable and responsive panels and all kinds of nice widgets straight out of the box, letting us design the GUI without nearly the hassle as before. Every new feature involves a ton of new custom code and testing, limiting our desire to innovate the GUI (hence the much-delayed multi-trading).įortunately, Unit圓D (our new development engine) has a huge ecosystem of GUI frameworks, including Daikon Forge, the one we ultimately chose. The original Deepworld’s GUI is largely built by code, a painstaking collection of custom controllers written by the team. Unlike standard apps, game GUIs are expected to mirror a game’s aesthetic and handle a variety of novel features. GUIs (graphical user interfaces) are notoriously annoying to create in games. This is our first sneak-peek at the hotness coming soon! Deepworld 2.0 is more than just a way to get our Windows, Linux, and Android friends in on the fun - it’s an entirely new beast with tons of new features and polish.
